When he came out and had that cloak on and went ‘I’m just a sweet transvestite!’ and threw the cloak off and was just standing there without apology, it was empowering. And it was because there was no apology. He was just going around like ‘Here I am and isn’t it fabulous?’ Something that surprised us all was the strong appeal to women. To have Tim Curry, in those days, on a stage, wearing ripped fishnets, and having all the women in the audience going ‘Hello! He’s a bit sexy isn’t he?’ And the guys sitting next to the girls would say ‘I see what you mean!’”
